If a society wants to retain the death penalty maybe the executioner should be chosen at random from that society, similar to jury service. Any one person only ever conducting one execution. Sounds fare to me. As Albert Pierrepoint said in an interview after his retirement, “The police, the judiciary and the public all stepped back and left it up to me”. Another comment I heard from an interview with a prison chaplain was how the process of execution left all involved feeling “sullied”.

You can't really call it a 'confession' considering they were torturing and coercing it out of him. People will say anything to make it stop. He and the others named were likely innocent.

I love this channel and your narration so much! This is a wonderful in depth presentation! Sir Rhys Ap Thomas was a legend! I will give Richard credit at least for his bravery in this battle- his road to the throne took much and cost many lives and he wanted to keep it above all. All warfare then.. One of my church members was a POW of the Japanese. Numerous times I drove him up to the VA hospital for treatment of injuries and infections the consequences of which were ongoing the rest of his life.
